Paradise Valley

Hidden palm-fringed pools 90 minutes from Agadir

About Paradise Valley

Paradise Valley is a chain of crystalline natural pools tucked into a palm-grove gorge in the High Atlas foothills, about 60 km north of Agadir. Locals have come here for generations to swim in the cool, spring-fed water during the hot months.

The valley is reached via a scenic mountain road through Argan-tree forests and Berber villages. A short hike from the trailhead leads to the main bathing pools — the deepest is around 4 metres and clear enough to count the pebbles on the bottom.

Best for

  • Half-day swimming + light hiking
  • Family day-trip with safe natural pools
  • Photography (best light: morning)
  • Picnic lunch in palm grove
  • Cliff-jumping (intermediate level)

Practical info

How to get there

60 km / 90 minutes by car from Agadir, 50 km / 70 minutes from Taghazout. Public buses don't run to the trailhead — a guided tour is the simplest option, and includes hotel pickup. Self-driving is possible but the last 10 km is winding mountain road.

Best time to visit

Spring and autumn (Mar–May, Sep–Nov) when temperatures are mild and water level is highest. Avoid mid-summer afternoons (35°C+); aim for early morning if going Jul–Aug. Winter pools are very cold but the valley is still beautiful for hiking.

What to bring

Swimsuit, towel, water-shoes (rocks are slippery), sunscreen, hat, water bottle. A change of clothes for the drive back. Modest beachwear is appreciated as locals also use the pools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions travellers ask us most.

Can you swim in Paradise Valley?
Yes — the pools are spring-fed, refreshingly cool, and safe for swimming. Depths range from 1 m to ~4 m. Water-shoes are recommended because of slippery rocks at pool edges.
How long is the hike to Paradise Valley pools?
15–20 minutes of easy walking from the trailhead parking. The path is well-trodden but uneven in places — wear sturdy footwear, not flip-flops.
Is Paradise Valley free to visit?
There is a small parking fee (~10 MAD) at the trailhead and a tip is appreciated by the local guides who maintain the path. Tour packages from Agadir typically include all fees and hotel transfers.
Are there toilets and food at Paradise Valley?
Several Berber-run cafés near the trailhead serve grilled fish, tagine, mint tea and bottled water. Basic toilets are available there. There are no facilities beyond the parking — bring everything you need into the gorge.
